In the spring of 1793, the newly formed Baptist Missionary Society was conducting an intense meeting. William Carey, known as the father of the modern missionary movement, was considering where God wanted him to serve. In that meeting, Reverend Fuller, secretary of the society, looked at Carey and said, "It is clear that there is a rich mine of gold in India; if you will go down, I will hold the ropes."
Athens Christian Church realizes that much can be accomplished for God's Kingdom when partnerships are formed; we know that we are here to help hold the ropes for missionaries across the globe. Part of the money that is received on Sunday mornings goes to the support of worldwide evangelism through various missions agencies. The following are ministries that we support through prayer, giving and service:
Church Camp Fund - Athens Christian Church believes that Christian camps can greatly impact all ages for Christ, therefore we provide scholarships to attend camp at Little Galilee and Lake Springfield Christian Assembly.
First Step Women's Center - Located in Springfield, Illinois with a mission to be the first step for women facing an unplanned pregnancy, transforming their fear into confidence, and empowering them to make healthy, life-affirming decisions.
GO Ministries - Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, but with most outreach centered on the island of Hispaniola, GO Ministries seeks to empower passionate, local leaders serving inside their own cultures to redeem people, renew communities, and restore creation by developing dynamic international, mutually transformational partnerships.
Illini Christian Ministries - Based in Champaign, Illinois, ICM has a mission to glorify God by partnering with churches in Illinois to focus on caring for at-risk children while preserving and restoring families.
