What is "The Event"?
"The Event" is a weekend conference that Youth Groups from all around come together for. If you have heard of CIY Move, it is like a very toned down version of that! Students will have a chance to worship, hear speakers, break out into small groups, play some games, and more! All of this is held at Ozark Christian College's campus in Joplin, MO. We will leave by bus from Athens Christian Church on Thursday, November 6th at 3:30pm and return Saturday, November 8th around 10pm.
Why do you leave on Thursday?
Ozark's campus is about 6 hours away from ACC, so students would have to miss class on Friday regardless in order to get there on time. We have decided to turn this into a longer weekend retreat without missing any extra school by leaving on Thursday at 3:30pm.
Do I have to miss my practice on Thursday in order to go?
Unfortunately, we need to leave at 3:30pm on Thursday. You are responsible for communicating with those in charge of your extra curricular activities to let them know when you will need to miss.
Where will we be staying?
We are renting a large AirBNB in Joplin! Each person will get their own bed, and we will designate boys/girls rooms and bathrooms.
How much does the trip cost?
The trip costs $150 per person attending. We do not want the cost of the trip to be the reason that your student misses "The Event". Please reach out to us if you have any concerns. You can contact our Youth Minister, Evan Noggle, at evan@athenschristian.net.
Why is the cost higher than last year?
We were able to charge significantly less because we only stayed one night at a local church. That church was unable to host again, unfortunately.
Do you have to want to go to Ozark Christian College in order to attend?
Absolutely not! While students who may be considering OCC as an option for college may enjoy attending, this trip is for anyone (Even those not considering school at all).
Does my student need any cash with them?
Yes, your student will need money for 3 travel meals while on the trip. We suggest $10-$15 per meal. There will be opportunities to purchase snacks and OCC Merchandise, but those are not required.
Where can I find the schedule and packing list?
We will send both students and parents a schedule and a packing list after you register. We will include a contact list for all of our leaders attending.
Will there be anything else I need to fill out after I register and submit payment?
Yes, be on the lookout for required forms to be filled out before the trip! These will be sent by our Youth Minister, Evan Noggle.
